American Football
For the love of god, can someone please explain something.
Why the hell did it get called football!? I mean sure they kick it once in a blue moon (i don't know when they do so that'll do) but the rest of the time they're throwing it to each other. Does anyone know or is it one of those long lost things that everyone just accepts and ignores? |

American football and what the US calls soccer originated from the same game and evolved seperately. I believe why we call soccer its US name is were a set of rules called Association Rules which got shortened. However as england codified its own set of rules, the US did as well and the two games began differentiating as time passed. That's why they are both called football.

i always thought they called it soccer because they "socked" the ball, as in giving it a good kick.
American football directly originates from rugby, though they all come from the same game. |
